The ITSSAR-accredited Rough Terrain Forklift Training course (J Group), delivered by SID Training, is exclusively offered as on-site operator training at your premises. This format allows operators to train using your own equipment in a real working environment.
This training encompasses rough terrain masted and telescopic lift trucks, including categories J1 (masted) and J3 (telescopic), which are commonly utilized on construction sites, in agricultural settings, and on uneven outdoor terrain.
Designed for challenging surfaces like mud, gravel, and uneven ground, rough terrain trucks require operators to possess a strong understanding of machine stability, load handling, and safe maneuvering in non-standard environments.
The course effectively merges theoretical knowledge with practical training, ensuring operators are familiar with safe operating procedures, workplace responsibilities, and strategies to minimize risks while working on uneven terrain.
Key topics include stability on slopes, safe load handling across uneven ground, and maintaining control while traveling with loads. Additionally, operators will learn how environmental factors, such as ground conditions and gradients, can influence safety.
Pre-use inspections are thoroughly covered to equip operators with the skills needed to identify faults and conduct essential safety checks before operating the equipment.
Training is tailored to the specific type of rough terrain truck available at your site, ensuring that certification accurately reflects the category of equipment the operator has been trained on.
Upon successful completion, delegates will earn an ITSSAR-accredited Certificate of Training, recognized throughout the UK and across the construction, agriculture, and industrial sectors.
Throughout the course, delegates will develop a strong understanding of:
- Safe operation of rough terrain lift trucks through ITSSAR Accredited Training
- Operator responsibilities and workplace safety awareness during On-Site Operator Training
- Daily pre-use inspections and fault reporting procedures
- Understanding stability on uneven ground, slopes, and gradients
- Safe load handling and weight distribution on rough terrain
- Travelling safely with loads across uneven or outdoor environments
- Safe manoeuvring in confined or active site conditions
- Working safely around pedestrians, vehicles, and construction hazards
- Awareness of environmental factors affecting safety, including ground conditions and weather
- End-of-shift procedures and safe shutdown of equipment
All candidates will complete both a theoretical test and a practical skills assessment at the end of the ITSSAR Accredited Training course. Upon successful completion, delegates will receive a Certificate of Training that is recognised across the UK and widely accepted within the industry, particularly for On-Site Operator Training.
