We are sad to announce the passing of Mick Scott, affectionately known to other staff as Sergeant Major or Tank Commander Mick.
Mick was a Sid Training Stalwart, was with the company from Day 1 back in Feb 2004
He was the Senior FLT Instructor from then to his retirement in 2025.
Mick was a very Straightforward bloke, he was honest to the point of being blunt on occasions especially when he first started with us but over the years he mellowed as he left his “army” ways behind.
He was an excellent trainer, he would give clear and concise Instructions and would be very proactive if someone was struggling to adapt to Operating a Fork Lift. He was extremely conscious of safety in the workplace and if anyone tried to take liberties he’d be sure to let you know in his own indominable way! On Occasions if someone wasn’t really listening or taking on board his suggestions he would slip into Sergeant Major mode to make a point! And on those occasions the Racking could shake!
He was really well liked and respected by all our staff and his FLT Instructor Colleagues, he was very friendly with all, and if you had an hour spare he could fill it with his tales of watching Motor Sport, which he loved going to with his wife of many years Heidi.
To me personally he was remarkably loyal when I really didn’t deserve that! I only hope he enjoyed his working career with us as much as I enjoyed his company and service within the workplace.
There’ll never be another like Mick. He was a “Stokie” but every now and again a “West Country” twang would come into the conversation on certain words, this reflected his time spent in the Tank Regiment stationed in Dorset. He met his wife Heidi in Germany whilst stationed there, they are a brilliant couple and perfectly suited. She and their children /Grand Children will miss Mick very much as we at Sid Training will also
Mick retired in 2025 but still called in a regular basis to keep in touch.
He was soon facing the biggest challenge of his life, a pancreatic Cancer diagnosis, it’s one of the worst cancers you can face but Mick saw it as a challenge, he battled it all the way for getting on for 2 years, I spoke to him on many occasions, he never moaned once and in fact every time I came off the phone I came off feeling enlightened and inspired, he was truly remarkable. We had his “retirement do” last Winter, he and Heidi were in great form and they were an inspiration to all of us at Sid’s.
He continued to fight for his health and did many enjoyable trips in his camper van whilst never quite knowing what was round the corner, it was how he dealt with the uncertainty I had great admiration for.
Sadly a few weeks ago the affects of the treatment introduced a new health issue and his time had come. I will never forget him, no one who has worked and knew him at Sid will. He was a great man, a throwback, proper “No Nonsense”
He will leave a big “mark” on the world for all those who met him and I feel mightily privileged to have done and to call him a personal friend and the best friend ever of Sid as a company.
